Become a regular giver

Remember being a teenager.
The expectations. The changes. The hopes and fears. The self-doubt.
The transition from childhood to adulthood is sufficiently challenging in itself.

Imagine, in addition to this, having had to flee from the only life you’ve ever known. After a perilous journey to find sanctuary, arriving in a new country, culture, a new language, without family or friends for support. Then comes a period of being lost in limbo: living in temporary accommodation, with no defined status or confirmation that you can stay and put down roots, access education, make friends, pursue your hopes, and start to rebuild your life.

Hostile government policies and the cost-of-living crisis have exacerbated this period of uncertainty.

Young Roots works alongside young refugees in London, many of whom have fled devastating situations in countries including Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Iran and Syria. We support them to heal from trauma, to understand their rights, to have hope and to fulfil their potential. We ensure that young people feel heard, believed and safe, as they establish trusted relationships with staff and their peers.

And you can support them too.  Join our community by becoming a regular giver.

We know times are tough, and we are so grateful for anything you can give. Whether big or small, giving regularly is hugely valuable to our work, allowing us to plan ahead, create long-term solutions, and respond promptly to emergencies which affect young refugees.

Your monthly donation will support our vital work with young refugees so they can cope, adapt and thrive:

  • Therapeutic support so young people can heal from the trauma of their experiences and improve their mental health and wellbeing. Young people access trauma-focused therapy, stabilisation support, and counselling at our weekly Hubs.

  • One-to-one intensive casework and access to high-quality legal support enable young people to navigate the complex immigration, social care, housing, health, welfare, and education systems. We support young people to understand their rights and entitlements, and how these change as they transition from childhood to adulthood.

  • Youth & sporting activities and trips, through which young people build trusted relationships and connections, reducing their social isolation and loneliness, and supporting their integration within their new communities.

  • English language mentoring to support young people's confidence, social integration, and access to education.

  • Youth participation and leadership skills support young people’s communication and confidence and help develop a sense of belonging and identity.

“I know this has been an incredibly hard 18 months. You've managed despite all the challenges to provide an essential service to those most in need. So really, I just want to say a huge well done to you all for your commitment and your passion for the young people you work with. And to them for their courage and determination in these hardest of times.”

— Raina, Regular Giver

I started to give regularly to Young Roots to support the amazing work they do with young refugees in and around London. The caseworkers and organisation as a whole make a huge difference to the lives of those that need it so greatly, you can really see the impact.
