Young Roots

A project for Young People to explore their cultural history and make a permanent record of what they want other people to know about them and their families.

All of the family stories on this site have been written by the young people and detail their unique stories in a way that is relevant to them. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Funds Young Roots programme.

Joel's Story

My name is Joel Cummins. I do St John's Ambulance and I used to play football but now I don't.

My family includes my Mum, Brother, Grandma, Aunty, Uncles and Brother.

My family is quite small. Some live in Leicester but come from Australia. I am 12 1/2 years old. My Mum is 38 and my brother is 19. I was born in Leicester Royal Infirmary and now live on the Saffron Lane Estate. For some time we lived in Braunstone. We have lived in Leicester all of my life.

Our house is old. I go to Lancaster boys school. My ethnicity is half irish.
